Richard Blanchard
Me when I had a huggy two year old
Hi.
I self-published Snow Blind my first contemporary novel in 2014, which covered issues of fatherhood and received strong testimonials. I have since been working on a childrens novel, but more recently my second contemporary novel.
As a later-life father to two boys, I’m conscious of the legacy I am leaving them.

Writers inevitably, unwittingly and uncontrollably use story to put their world to rights. Some of the themes my head gravitates towards are:
- When do we give ourselves permission to pursue our dreams? When are we inspired? Do we get a person who shows us the way? What do we throw away?
- Do we all get a chance? The establishment has a stranglehold on opportunity to protect their own. We need a new narrative to replace tokenistic meritocracy
- Do men ever grow up? Watching the Peter Pan generation of men who drift through life without commitment
- Do we value life until too near death? For me my moments of threat have been are a Mont Blanc crevasse, losing my best friend and being at Hillsborough
- What legacy do we leave our family and life
